Dorothy Sack-McCormick at Elitch's Gardens.

I am guessing this photo was taken around 1920.

Aunt Marie told me that because Ethel and Dorothy had jobs, and she used to sneak into their rooms so she could touch their pretty clothes.

This is my great great grandmother Mary Molly Sack- Becker with her second husband Horace Becker.  This photo was taken in Atlantic City N.J. in 1926 according to my grandma Ethel Piper.

The caption on the back of the photo in my grandma's handwriting is:
"at Atlantic City 1926.  Nannie Becker and Uncle Horace.

Grandma told me that Nannie Becker used to give this advice regarding men: " Don't marry them just be their mistress, and you will get more out of them."

My grandma was not very fond of her grandmother, perhaps they were too much alike?  Grandma always called her "The Son of a B****."

Nannie Becker is also the one who told my grandma during one of their many skirmishes that her parents "had to get married," because Elizabeth was pregnant with Ethel.  She was so angry with Ethel when she died that she left her diamond ring to Dorothy, who promptly had it made into 2 rings one for her and one for Ethel.

Note:  The 1900 Census has them living at 1233 N. 10th St. in Philadelphia, and listed as the head of the house is M. William Becker not Horace.  Two stepsons John and Horace Sack live with them and a C. Jennie Sack as a lodger?????

These lovely young ladies all dressed up for Easter are my grandma Ethel Sack-Piper (on the right), and her younger sister Dorothy Sack-McCormick.  I believe this picture was taken around 1909 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, when Ethel would have been 5 years old, and Dorothy 3 years old.

It is pretty hard for me to imagine my grandma, looking so sweet, and if you ever had the privilege of meeting my Grandma Ethel you get my drift.  They both have on pretty dresses and we can see the tops of their button-down shoes.  They appear to be holding Easter baskets, and while Ethel's hair is styled with a flower in her hair. Dorothy looks like a sweet little pixie with her short hair combed behind her ears.

This would have been close to the time that they moved into their grandparent's home, David and Sarah Griffith.  My grandmother Ethel remembered living in the house at 642 Wharton Street,in Philadelphia, and if you Google the address you can see what the house looks like today.  When the family lived there David and Sarah had a candy store on the ground floor, and they all lived in very crowded conditions above it.
